Sheila Fraser

October 26, 1945 — January 4, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Aunt Sheila Fraser, on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at the age of 76. Sheila was born in Sydney, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia on October 26, 1945. Sheila was the youngest daughter of Albert Thompson & Mary Isabel “Mary Belle”. After graduating from Holy Angels High School in 1964, The Cape Breton Business College in 1965, she worked in various jobs in Toronto, Winnipeg, Halifax and Newfoundland, returning to Cape Breton in 1977 to care for her dad after the death of her mom.

She then worked at the law firm of Khattar & Khattar from 1978 to 1988 and then went to work for family division of the Supreme Court retiring in 2015. Sheila was predeceased by and her brothers Albert Roderick (Rose), John Hartigan “Jackie”, William MacRae ‘Bill” (Kay), James Michael “Jim” (Erika), Arthur Neil (Donna) and Chester Hubert (Mary) and her sisters Selena Margaret Belle “Lina” (Al Mackenzie), Lillian Viola (Joe MacKenzie), Alexina Marie “Lexie” (Donald MacDougall), Annie Pearl, Mary Elizabeth (Lawrence MacNeil), She is survived by her Sister Margaret Ann CSM, Antigonish, NS and her Ex husband & friend Raymond Clark and many nieces and nephews. She was very proud to be a Fraser and it warmed her heart to see how many of her nieces and nephews came together to help and watch over her when she announced she had cancer.

Sheila, the baby of her family, was her family’s keeper, taking care of her father and so many of her older brothers and sisters as they aged. It was a blessing to have the full support of her family in her time of need. Sheila found great joy spending time at her cottage in Christmas Island, surrounded by good county air and beautiful flowers. Sheila was very happy with a good book, her dog and a chair outside to take in the real beauty this world had to offer.

Sheila will be remembered as a kind person who always greeted you with a smile, welcomed you into her home, and made sure you had a good meal if you were there for a real visit. She was the first to offered you a place to stay if you were passing through Cape Breton. Sheila will be missed, but will return to the loving arms of her family in heaven.

There will be no visitation. A private family service will take place at Holy Redeemer Church and burial will be held at St. Barra’s Cemetery, Christmas Island, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
