Paul Roach

April 4, 1928 — February 21, 2020

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Paul Roach at Glace Bay General Hospital on Friday, Feb. 21, 2020. Born in Cheticamp, he was the son of Joseph and Marie Roach. Paul is survived by a sister, Mary Edna Roach, Cheticamp, and a brother, Louis, Toronto. He also leaves behind many nephews and nieces who adored him. He will also be deeply missed by his lifetime friends and "second family", Archie and Lexie MacKinnon of Sydney. Besides his parents, Paul was predeceased by brothers Alex, Jimmie, Arsène, Willie, and Charlie, and by sisters Elizabeth, Marie Cézaire, Marie Louise, and Marie Cécile, as well as by a brother and sister in infancy.
Paul attended our Lady of Annunciation School and Empire Business College, after which he accepted a clerk position at City Hall in Sydney. This turned out to be his lifetime career, where he spent 42 years of dedicated service to the city, the last 20 years of which he held the position of City Clerk.
Paul was a life member of the 4th degree Father William B. MacLeod Assembly. He was also a member of the District KOC Choir. He was a faithful member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, and in earlier years, St. Augustine Parish, where he was a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the choir.
Paul will be forever remembered for his gentle soul and his sense of humour. We are sure that many of his coworkers could share memories of the many laughs which he initiated over the years. He loved to travel but, by far, his favourite destination was Cheticamp, where he loved spending time with family.
As per Paul`s request, there will be no visitation. A memorial mass will be held in Cheticamp at a date to be announced. Donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation would be appreciated (P.O. Box 1280, Station K, Toronto, Ontario, M4P 9Z9), or to a charity of one`s choice.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of 4 North at the Glace Bay Hospital, where he resided for the last 6 months, for the wonderful care and attention they extended to Paul. As well, we would like to acknowledge the staff of the ER and 3E for their support and compassion in the last few days.
Uncle Paul: You were our support and our rock for all our lives...now, it is time for you to put your feet up and enjoy that happy reunion with all your siblings in heaven. We will always love you.
