MACKIE, Katherine Beatrice
Glace Bay

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, sister and Aunt, Katherine Beatrice Mackie on March 6, 2020 at NewWaterford Consolidated Hospital.

Born in Bras’dor on December 4,1931, she was the daughter of the late John and Nora (MacPherson) Doucette.

Mom loved spending time with her family. Christmas day was her favorite time spent watching her grandchildren opening their presents. Mom loved to travel.  She especially loved her yearly vacations with her three sisters.  Every year they would look forward to spending their time together.  For many years Mom enjoyed her summers trailering in Ben Eoin where she forged many friendships and enjoyed it so much that years later her and Dad continued with an RV and travelled around enjoying their retirement.  In her later years Mom remained just as social spending time with her many friends playing cards and enjoying a few dances.

Left behind with fond memories by four children, Paul (Kelly) Cosnick, Gina (Brian) Levangie, Marlene (Nelson) Thompson, Barbara Mackie (Bill Hull).  Also eight grandchildren, Jason (Tracey), Shalane (Jason), Daniel (Jessica), Colin (Bethany), Talia (Jordan), Jennifer, Allison (Ben), Matthew: seven great-grandchildren, Kenzie, Breah, Ayden, Dayton, Ryder, Jersey and Logan; sisters, Anne (George) Cooper, Norene (John) Surdu and by many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husbands Carl Cosnick and Melvin Mackie: sister Mary (Ron) Hollohan; brothers Johnnie and James.

The family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and staff of the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.  Their kindness and compassion showed to Mom will forever stay with us.  Donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

There will be no visitation.  Cremation has taken place at her request under the care of Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.  A Celebration of Mom’s Life will be held at Gardiner Mines Pensioners Hall on March 28, 2020 from 2-4 pm. Please join us. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to www.foresthaven.ca
