Armand "Gary" Joseph Surette, Age 58 of Big Pond, Cape Breton, NS. Gary passed away peacefully on April 13th following a short illness in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Gary was born in Moncton NB and was the son of Ronald Armand Surette (Ron) and Lorraine Emily (Gallant) Surette of Moncton, NB. Gary moved to NS in 1976 and attended school in Milford. He later received a culinary arts degree from NSIT and acquired his Red Seal. Over the next few years, he worked in pubs and restaurants throughout NS, most notably Curly Portables in Enfield.
He moved to Cape Breton in 1989 where he met and married his wife Anne Irene (Co-Dyre) Surette and became an amazing father to Carmen. Gary was an instant hit in his "souped up" mint condition Buick Regal along with love of good music & sound systems. Gary went on to land his dream job at the Canadian Coast Guard College and remained in his role as "Gary the Baker" pastry chef for 25 years of passionate service.
Gary is survived by parents Ronald Armand (Ron) and Lorraine Emily (Gallant) Surette, NB; loving partner Lisa Walker, Cape Breton; his treasured brother Dany Surette and sister Susan Surette, NB; Daughters Carmen(Co-Dyre) Adams (Craig), Halifax and Taylor Spurrell, Lr Sackville.
Gary was "Grampy" to his cherished grandson Ryan Adams. He is predeceased by his loving wife Anne Irene (Co-Dyre) Surette, Uncle Eric Surette, Grandparents as well as a sister in infancy.
Gary loved to cook in his newly renovated kitchen, and sometimes it was difficult to get him out of there. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his best buddy Jimmy (Jim Jim) Gray, vacationing in the Caribbean with partner Lisa, spending time with friends and family. Gary's eyes would light up whenever he was with his "Super Hero" grandson Ryan Adams.
Last but certainly not least he loved, no, lived to ride his Harley any chance he could and never minded how cold it was in May when he would ride to Halifax for his grandson Ryan's birthday. Grampy always arrived in rumbling style.
Gary was a wonderful, passionate, caring man who would do anything for his family, friends, and even a stranger hitchhiking on the road.
He will be remembered for his big smiles and the best hugs ever. Gary would want everyone to remember all the good times they shared and keep his memory alive with stories of fun and laughter.
He will be deeply missed by his loving partner Lisa, his parents and siblings, daughters, precious grandson, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many good friends.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will occur when the world is back to normal, as normal as it can be without Gary in it.
Donations can be made to the leukemia and lymphoma society in honour of his treasured survivor "super hero" grandson, Ryan.
