Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that the family of CWO (ret'd) Ralph Francis Cameron, of New Waterford, announce his passing on January 1, 2021. Frank, age 76, was truly a kind, caring, devoted, fun-loving person who lived every moment to the fullest.

Frank was the husband of Rita Willena (Gillis), his loving wife of 52 years. He truly beamed when he spoke of how proud he was of his daughters Kimberley Lamarche (Patrick), Westmount and Sherry MacDonald (Scott), Cambridge ON. The absolute joy in his life were his grandchildren Màili, Lillian, Aidan and Alexandra. Frank is predeceased by his parents Anne "Cookie" and Ralph Cameron, and his brother Ray "Dee Dee" Cameron. He is also survived by his brother Gary (Donna), sister Zita (Skip) and sister in law Lorraine. His legacy includes the special individual relationships he had with many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Many battles were fought to be 'favorite' and have their name on a plaque in the garage.

Frank proudly served his country joining the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1963. Earning the rank of Chief Warrant Officer as an Avionics Technician, he worked as an electrician with jet aircraft flight simulators. Throughout his career he made lifelong friends and everyone knew that he was someone you could count on. Over 33 years he was always involved with military community events and mess management starting in Germany, Ottawa, Trenton, Greenwood, Moose Jaw, Baden, and retiring from NDHQ in Ottawa.

Cape Breton has always been his home. He loved to fish, go to hunting camp in Framboise, watch his beloved Bruins, complete electrical work to help someone out, spend time at the Army, Navy & AIR FORCE veterans club, distribute jobs and share family recipes for ice cubes. He was truly a legend who was loved and known by many as Uncle Frank. His iconic garage has always been a place where anyone was welcomed with a drink and a smile. Whether it be for a job, a loan of a tool, a card game, a talk or sharing in his love of his bunny Caramel. He truly lived by his favourite motto; "it is nice to be important but more important to be nice."

In keeping with Covid-19 restrictions, there will be no visitation.
