It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of Anne Marie Gillis, age 73, on Thursday May 14th, 2020 with her loving family surrounding her. Born November 22nd, 1946 in Sydney she was the daughter of the late Peter and Tilly (Robicheau) Bersuk.

Anne met Donald in Loch Lomond, they married in 1967 and they raised three daughters together, Susie, Donna and Cheryl. Mommy provided her family with a loving home, many home cooked meals, endless baked goods, and wonderful memories to cherish. She was “Mommy” to more than her three girls. To many of their friends and cousins she meant so much. She was warm and affectionate and opened her home to many and treated them like they were her own. The people that knew her, loved her.
She enjoyed gardening, watching all sports, especially the Montreal Canadiens, and the occasional game of bingo. But her biggest pleasure was her family, especially being Nana to her grandkids, Kaleigh, Ryan, Tyler and Gabrielle. Nothing made her prouder than watching them grow and the many accomplishments they achieved. She will be tremendously missed.
She and Donald had a wonderful life together. They were modest people and enjoyed the simple things in life. As long as they were together, they were happy.

She was predeceased by her parents, sister Marie MacIntyre, infant brother PJ Bersuk. She is survived by husband, Donald, daughters Susan Tanner, Donna Simpson (James), and Cheryl Umba (Thierry). She has four grandchildren, Kaleigh Simpson, Ryan Tanner, Tyler Simpson and Gabrielle Umba. She is also survived by her sisters, Lucy Bersuk and Dorothy Bersuk.

The family wishes to thank the management and staff of Harbourstone Enhanced Care, specifically the staff on Steelworker’s Lane for the love and care they provided to Mommy in the months she has lived there. She thought of you as family and we can't thank you enough. Thanks to Dr. Hall and Dr. Coakley, and all of her special VON Nurses.
