Obituary

It is with both profound sadness and deep gratitude for a life beautifully lived that we announce the passing of Winnifred MacLeod, who peacefully left us on March 14, 2026, at the graceful age of 84. Born on May 26, 1941, in New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Winnifred was a beacon of light, known far and wide for her generosity, compassion, and quick wit. Her readiness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need was a hallmark of her character, leaving an indelible legacy of love and compassion that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Winnifred was the daughter of Wilfred and Anna (Murrant) McNeil. She joins her beloved husband, the love of her life, James W. MacLeod. Her sisters Joan Hutchison, Cecella Crago, Beverly Power, and Cathy Swan as well as grandson James William John (Jack) Petite and she now joins them in eternal peace.

Her memory lives on through her devoted daughters, Laurel MacLeod and Jamie (Vaughan) MacNeil, who carry forth her legacy with grace and strength. Winnifred was the proud grandmother of Natasha and Derrick Petite, and her heart delighted in the laughter and time shared with her great-grandson, Jeremy Howley-Petite. She is also survived by her loving sister Donna (Jim) Payne, and her brother Wilfred (Colleen) McNeil.

Among her many cherished relationships, Winnifred held a special place in her heart for her lifelong friend Carol Burton, whose companionship was a source of joy and comfort throughout the years. Her constant companion, Cosmo, affectionately known as Boo Boo, brought boundless joy and warmth to her days.

Winnifred's spirit of generosity and her unwavering compassion were felt by all who crossed her path. She was a woman of immense strength, whose kindness and humor touched countless lives, leaving a legacy that will forever be a guiding light in our hearts.

A service to celebrate Winnifred's extraordinary life will be held at All Saints Cemetery in New Waterford, Nova Scotia, at a later date. As we gather to honor her memory, we take solace in knowing that her spirit will continue to watch over us, guiding us with the same love and compassion she shared with the world.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Winnifred's memory to a charity of your choice, as a testament to the giving nature that defined her life. May we all strive to emulate her kindness and share her legacy of love with the world.
