It is with sadness, we announce the passing of William ‘Billy’ Townsend on July 24, 2023 surrounded by his loving family at Harbourstone where he resided for a few years.  

Billy was born in North Sydney May 20 1953, son of the late Douglas and Beatrice (Witherall) Townsend. Predeceased by his wife Linda (Johnston) Townsend. He is survived by his three sons Christopher (Glenda), David and Matthew, grandchildren Chael and Dax, his sister Ruth (Alec), brother Rick (Christeen), as well as many nephews and nieces. Predeceased by brother Ben and sister Rose. 

While residing at Harbourstone he was always visited and received special care from his nieces Verniece, Melody, Crystal, sister Ruth and nephew Joey, also the amazing staff at Harbourstone, especially his favourite nurses Tish, Leah and Ellen. 

Youngest of his siblings Billy always enjoyed spending time with family, younger days play wrestling with Joey (Hoppy) and Verneice (The Beast) and always had great sense of humour. He really enjoyed live horse racing, watching football with his sons, hockey (Habs), bowling, as well playing cards, especially poker and tarbish. Introducing and listening to great music to his sons especially David. Taking family trips to visit brother Ben and family in New Brunswick. Enjoyed watching many movies, westerns (John Wayne) and action movies. Billy drove taxi for nearly 40 years in Sydney as well giving island tours to cruise ship passengers.

Billy will be greatly missed by all family and friends and truly loved all his family.

Cremation has taken place at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens and a celebration of life will take place at a later in October 2023.
