It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of William Joseph Roberts at the age of 99 years at The Alderwood Rest Home, Baddeck Nova Scotia, on September 23, 2026.

William is survived by his two children Hal (Evelyn) and Richard (Darlene), his four grandchildren William (April), Crowdis, Michaela (Billy), Chloe (Wahab), and their mother Shelagh Fraser, step –grandchildren Jordan and Carlin and their families, great grandchildren Elyse, Amirah, Anaya, sister-in-law Kay Maloney and many nieces and nephews.

Born in Baddeck on March 8, 1927, William was predeceased by his wife Joan (Cameron) daughters Leslie and Barbara. Parents Thomas and Annie (MacInnis) Roberts, brothers Morris, Clifford, Clarence, and Daniel, sisters Marion Warnholtz and Betty Skinner, brother-in-law’s Reuben Skinner, Winston Cameron, Richard Cameron, Hugh Cameron, Reid Cameron, Sandy Cameron and sister-in-law Alice Livingston.

William was born, and lived his whole life, on the Shore Road looking out on the Bras D or Lakes. He worked with the Nova Scotia Power Corporation for almost 40 years where he received the nick name Willie Power. He was a life – long member of the Greenwood United Church congregation, a member of St Mark’s Masonic Lodge No. 35 for 75 Years and Eastern Star for 65 years.

William and Joan operated a bed and breakfast seasonally for years, where they opened their home to people from all over the world. They met many wonderful people who especially enjoyed his famous hot oatmeal cereal at breakfast.

William had many hobbies, and from an early age he loved taking photographs of family, friends and his travels throughout the Maritimes and abroad. For many years he was a dedicated keeper of daily journals, and was often called upon for his recollections of the history of Baddeck.

William had been a passionate bee keeper and he loved sharing the joys of beekeeping with others.

He handmade many woodworking projects, often with lumber cut on his own woodlot, that people will enjoy for years to come.

Following his retirement, he took to the streets on his bicycle well in to his late 80s, and he could be seen traveling far from Baddeck logging many miles every year.

The family wishes to express their appreciation and gratitude to the management and staff of Alderwood Rest Home, Dr. Ritter, Paulette, Nurse Practitioner Kristen, Dr T Woodford and Dr. R. Genge.

 In accordance with Williams wishes, a cremation has taken place and Interment in Greenwood United Church Cemetery will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to a charity of your choice.
