Wendy Josephine Corbett

March 19, 1955 — February 12, 2024

Sydney

We are emotionally grieved to announce the passing of the most caring wife, mother, friend and an exemplary model of pure love and human decency. Wendy passed away at home in the arms of her family at 9:22 AM February 12th, 2024. Thirty-eight years to the day of her fathers’ death. Wendy was pre deceased by her father Leo Wall, mother Rita and brothers Gary and Darrell. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Jim Corbett and their three children; Michael (Sarah Jaarsma), Pamela (David Johnson), Jessica (Michael Fitzpatrick), in whom so much of her lives on. She leaves behind her eight beautiful and adored grandchildren; Jacob, Lily, Peyton, Lucy, Liam, Logan, Lincoln and Cassie. Her special niece Tracey (Don Cropley) & their son Caleb. Brothers Daniel (Carol) Wall and Kevin Wall. To her many other nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and in laws, please know she loved and cared for each of you. Jean and Claudette, thank you for your lifelong influence and guidance in shaping this incredible woman.

Jim and Wendy met in Toronto; two Cape Bretoners finding their way to each other in a much larger city. They married in 1978 and returned to Cape Breton in 1980, where Wendy devoted herself to raising her children. Wendy worked with her mother, seasonally at the Fortress of Louisbourg. In 1990 she began her career with Citizenship and Immigration where she worked for 23 years; gaining lasting friendships and excelling in her work until her retirement in 2013 to spend more time with her grandchildren.

Wendy’s accomplishments in life are best left to be chronicled in the affectations of those who met and knew her. The words love, faithful, beautiful, sweet, friendly, loyal, kind, giving, selfless and thoughtful will abound. All said with the utmost sincerity and conviction. I ask you, is that not a legacy and epithet we would all want?

We will be forever thankful for the exemplary care and attention paid to Wendy by the staff of CBRH Cancer Unit and Palliative care unit, with special mentions to: Dr. Saliba, Dr. Ritter, Dr.Burns and lastly but most unforgettably Leah Burns RN, with whom she shared an unbreakable bond. Thank you all so much.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Hospice/Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton at this link: https://hospicecapebreton.org/ways-to-give/donate/

And now I will end with this tearful promise to you Wendy: “If there comes a day when we can’t be together Keep me in your heart, I’ll stay there forever” I will do that for you Wendy.
