Walter Godfrey

August 24, 1935 – April 27, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of retired (Cpt.) Walter Godfrey Grant who passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Born in Glace Bay; Walter was the son of Walter Cyril Grant and Llewelle (Estwick) Grant.
Walter is lovingly survived by his wife Patricia Grant of 64 years, his children Walter JR and Charmaine. A cherished grandfather to Chantel and a great grandfather to Keian, Tatianna and Treyvon, and great great grandfather to Dayton.
Walter found joy in his love for music, playing keyboard, hockey and spending time with his loved ones. He graduated from Morrison High School. He joined the army in 1957 and retired in 1990 from the RCEME corps. Walter spent four years in West Germany during the Cuban crisis and three tours in the Middle East, Gaza Strip and Israel. He will forever be remembered as a kind-hearted soul who always cared about others.
Walter was predeceased by his grandparents George Estwick and Josephine (Carter) Estwick, his siblings Melvin Grant, Olga (Brown) Grant and Whitfield Grant and is survived by his sister Crosby (Grant) Nurse. His nieces and nephews Charlotte Jill (nurse) Brown (George), David Nurse (Yolonda) David Grant, Ashley Grant, Sandra Grant, Karen Grant, and Donna Grant. His grand nieces and nephews, Christine, Jennifer, Jeremy, Natasha, Trinette, Elisa, Nathan, Stormy and Sidney.
His great grand nieces and nephews, Carter, Bryden, Silas, Ella and Ava. He is also predeceased by his uncle Samuel Estwick.
It is with heartfelt gratitude we thank Brett Gillis and the palliative care team, as well as VON, Veterans Affairs and the cancer centre for their compassionate care shown to Walter.
As per request of the family, cremation has taken place under the care of Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers during this time and at Walter’s request, no services will be held.
