Wallace Joseph Byrne Monk

With deep sadness we regret the passing of Wally Monk. He was a very kind man, husband, father and grandfather. He was with the military and retired to Sydney. He enjoyed the many years we travelled in our RV across Canada and the US. 

One day Wally found a small caterpillar on the ground and was worried the birds would kill it. He hid it under a bush but then wasn’t satisfied and covered it with a leaf. I realize now that Wally also wrapped me up in his love and protected me.   I am glad he is now at peace. I told him, in heaven he would have 2 legs and that I would come to him for that dance he promised me. 

Wally is survived by his loving wife Susan, daughters; Pam Johnson and Melannie Clark, both of BC, grandchildren; Nicole and Daniel Johnson, Kira and Jeannine Clark, Jessica and Taylor Baker all of BC, and Julien Baker of ON., great-grandchildren Autumn Rose, of BC, Xander of AB and Elara Levara and Lilah Mae Hughes. He is also survived by brothers; John, Harold, Glen, Alfred all of NS, and Norman of AB and sisters; Linda, Juanita, Janet, and Heather all of NS.

Predeceased by his parents Boyd and Ken Monk, and birth mother Anne Knox, step-daughter Jackie Baker, son Kendall Monk, brothers Billy and Jimmie, sisters; Margaret, Jessie, and Gloria, and his much beloved dog Sparky. 

Many thanks to our daughter Pam Johnson for the 3 weeks she spent with us helping to care for her father. which was deeply appreciated and much needed. Many thanks to home care, nurses, and doctors at the Regional and all those who took care of Wally. 

Cremation has taken place under the guidance of Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. A graveside service will take place at a later time.
