Theresa Josephine Smith

January 1, 1926 — November 24, 2024

Sydney

We the family of Theresa Smith of Sydney, regretfully announce her passing in the early morning of Nov 24, 2024 with her loving daughter Heather & daughter-in-law Darlene by her side until the very end. Theresa was born in Marystown NFLD to the late Joseph & Bridgette (Lambert) Stapleton.

She grew up in a large blended family of 19 & was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She came to Sydney in 1946 where she met and married her husband Frederick Smith. They have five children who they raised in the Shipyard, then Hardwood Hill areas.

Mom was predeceased by her husband Fred and sons Phillip and Brian. She is survived by her daughter Heather (late Bryon Rogers) of Northside East Bay, sons Clem (Darlene) of Sydney, Pat of Port Morien and daughter-in-law Lori (late Brian) of Ontario.

Mom was a very active person and loved nothing more than a game of bingo or cards. She was a very kind person who always looked out for others. Mom was known for her baking, especially her pork pies, cherry squares and fruit cake.

Mom lived in her own apartment on George St until a couple of bad falls determined she could no longer live on her own. She then moved to the MacGillivray Guest Home. Mom loved everybody there, staff and clients alike. Mom was the social butterfly of Harbor Lane until a diagnosis of cancer and a fall took her down within two months.

Mom is survived by 11 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

At this time we would like to give a special thank you to all the staff and nurses at palliative care and the guest home, especially Vicky (LPN) and Madison (RN) who were a great comfort to us and Mom as she took her last few breaths on this earth.

We would be remiss at this time if we left out Mom’s special friends the Oakley family, Florence and Vernon and their children Meghan and Walter. Mom has been entrusted to the care of Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. There will be a private burial with family and a few close friends at Resurrection Cemetery where she will be interred with her late husband Fred and son Brian.

Mom was an angel on earth who will be forever loved and missed. Rest peacefully, Mom. We love you.
