Obituary

Surrounded by family, Sgt. Gordon Hector D’Andrea, CD passed away on June 6th, 2026 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Born April 20th, 1940 to the late Joseph and Josephine (Sorhaitz) D’Andrea.

At the age of 17 he joined the Canadian Armed Forces with the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery; serving as paratrooper and a member of the Canadian Airborne Regiment (Regimental Number 0285).

During his 36 year career he spent time in Germany and Cyprus. He was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration (CD) and United Nations Medal.

Gordon enjoyed watching curling, baseball and hockey. He was an avid fan of the Toronto Blue Jays, Detroit Red Wings and the Cape Breton Eagles.

Gordon is survived by his brother Adrian (Mary) Hamilton, ON, nephews Todd (Jane), Craig, Troy, Joe (Michelle), nieces Anita, Christine, great nephews Cory (Kayla), Christian, Andrew, Timmy, Jeremy (Kassidy), Dawson, great nieces Christine (RJ), Amy (Nick), great-great niece Isabella, great-great nephew Asher and caregiver/niece in- law Marion.

Predeceased by his parents, brother Christopher, in infancy, brother Peter & sister in law Ann, brother Duncan, nephews Shawn and Adrian, nieces Darlene and Barbara.

As per Gordon’s wishes there will be no service. Donations can be made in Gordon’s memory to the Ashby Legion, Branch 138.

A special thank you to the Doctors, nurses and staff of the emergency department, 4D and the An Cala Palliative Care unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
