It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert (Bobby) Wayne Bushell, aged 70, of Balls Creek, on October 18, 2026, following a brief stay at Northside General Hospital.
He was survived by his soulmate Maisie, and their four children, sons Robert, North Sydney and Sandy (Kyla), Dawson Creek, BC daughters Robin, Oromocto, NB and Mary, Sydney. His five grandchildren Alice, Paige, Edison, Clare and Seth, sisters Mary, Halifax and Georgina, ‘Gene’ North Sydney and brother Charles ‘Chipper’ (Verna) Bombay NL. As well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Muriel, and brothers Norman and George (Cheryl).
Bobby was born November 16th 1955 to George and Vera Bushell. He was the youngest of seven and the baby of the family.
Bobby was known in the trucking community as ‘Bob the Builder’ for his incredible work ethic, prior to his retirement, he had worked for GL Trucking for many years hauling everything from sand to limestone all around the CBRM. After his retirement you could find him enjoying a quiet life at home with Maisie.
Throughout his life, he was happiest keeping busy. Whether he was gathering wood for the winter, always believing that wood heat was the best heat, or tinkering away and building something, he could always find something to keep his hands busy. He took pride in his work and enjoyed the simple satisfaction of making or fixing things.
He was affectionately known as Poppy, PupPup and Grampy to his grand children. He was blessed to witness his first grandchild’s high school graduation this year, a moment he cherished deeply.
The family would like to extend their most sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff of 5 East and 4 West for their devotion and care over the last few weeks.
A celebration of life will be held at the Frenchvale Fire Hall on Saturday, October 24th 2026, from 2-5pm.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Bobby’s memory to the Canadian Liver Foundation.
