Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Terrence “Terry” MacKinnon, who passed away peacefully with his daughters by his side, following a short battle with lung cancer.

Terry faced his illness the same way he lived his life — with strength, determination, and a stubborn spirit that was uniquely his own. He was never one to back down easily, and he remained true to himself right until the end.

Terry leaves behind his loving daughters, Krystel and Blaire, and was predeceased by his son, Ryan. He is also remembered and loved by his stepchildren, Justin (Andrea), Tamara (Bill), and Cindy (Len) and their children.

He is survived by his siblings Blair (Shannon), Rollie, Greg (Donna), Angus, Roseanne, Jackie, and Sandy. Terry was predeceased by his parents, Roland and Alexina MacKinnon, his brother Bernie, and his former wives, Anne and Holly, both of whom were part of his life's journey.

A hardworking man throughout his life, Terry began his career as an HVAC technician before finding his true calling behind the wheel of a transport truck. Long-haul trucking allowed him to do what he loved most — drive. For many years, he travelled the open roads with his faithful four-legged companion, Roscoe, riding shotgun. Together, they shared countless miles and adventures.

While Terry enjoyed life on the open road, some of his happiest moments were the simplest ones. Give him the keys to his beloved 2003 Dodge Dakota, affectionately known as “Pookie,” Roscoe in the passenger seat, and a cold beer waiting for him at the end of the day, and he was a happy man. He didn't need much more than that. Those who knew him will remember his independent spirit, his love of driving and vehicles, and the little things that made him unmistakably Terry.

Though his final journey came far too soon, we take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace, with nothing but open roads ahead.

Cremation has taken place. Details of a Celebration of Life to honor Terry will be shared at a later date.
