Obituary

It is with deep sorrow, yet profound gratitude for a life beautifully lived, that we announce the passing of Mary Vivian short, aged 79, on May 25, 2026. She departed peacefully, surrounded by the love of the family she spent her entire life building and protecting.

Vivian was a woman of extraordinary strength, quiet grace, and unwavering faith. For over 50 years, she was a dedicated member of the Catholic women’s League (CWL) in Arichat, and for 32 years, she served with the Ladies auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 150, Arichat. Her long-standing service to these organizations was a testament to her lifelong devotion to helping others.

Throughout her life, she balanced multiple jobs to keep her household running. Following the closing of Booth Fisheries, she channeled her deep capacity for giving into a meaningful career as a Continuing Care Assistant (CCA). She took her role as a CCA incredibly seriously working with immense passion and extending the same dignity and care to her patients that she would to her very own family. Even when a physical injury made it impossible to continue this line of work, her servant’s heart did not stop; she turned to providing respite care and companionship, offering comfort and light to many, especially to her good friend, Dee.

At the center of her world was her beloved husband Gordon, with whom she shared 60 years of marriage. Her love for him was immense and fiercely loyal. Through every season, she remained his steady protector, sitting calmly and bravely by his bedside to care for him when his health required it.

As a mother, she poured her very essence into her family, and her love was the steady anchor that held everyone together. Her house was always kept, her door was always open, and a home-cooked meal was always on the table, serving as a daily reminder of her devotion. She loved her family unconditionally, giving entirely of herself without ever expecting anything in return. The warmth, kindness, and selflessness she showed every single day will remain forever etched in the hearts of those she loved so deeply.

She was predeceased by her parents, Lawrence and Estelle Boudreau of Arichat; Her brothers, Eugene Boudreau and Dave Boudreau (Late Denise Boudreau); Her grand-daughter, Shelby as well as her great-grandchildren Theodore and Robin.

She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love and is survived by her beloved husband Gordon; her children, Gordie Short of Louisdale, Eugene Short (Charlene) of Arichat, Cynthia DeCoste (Danny) of Mulgrave, Shelley Short (late Todd Malcolm) of West Arichat, and Bradley Short of Arichat.

She is also survived by her siblings, Luke Boudreau (Valerie) of Cape Auguet, Deltina Boudreau (Late Ralph Boudreau) of Arichat, Lillie Jane Dorey (Michael) of Arichat, and Alexander Boudreau (Suzanne) of Arichat; her grandchildren, Terrance Short (Cassie), Christian Short (Brittany), Brandon Short (Jade), Delaney DeCoste (Candace), Dylan DeCoste (Jensen), Ella Malcolm, Bryce Malcolm (Selena), and Trent Short; Her great-grandchildren, Emmerson, Deegan, Addy, Jackson and Delilah Jo. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass celebrating her life and faith will be held on May 30, 2026, at 2:00pm at Our Lady of Assumption church, Arichat, followed by a celebration of life at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 150, Arichat.
