Mary Rita Lewis

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Rita Lewis on Sunday, November 30, 2025 in Sydney, Cape Breton, at the age of 97.

Born in Sydney, on May 6, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Joseph and Sarah Martina (MacDougall) Campbell.

Rita was raised a Catholic and attended St. Theresa's Church, while in her senior years she enjoyed the televised Mass for Shut-ins and would read her Christian books and say her Rosary daily. She was a proud sponsor of three individuals from youth through graduation through the Children International Organization.

Rita is survived by her son Aubrey and her sisters; Jean (Donald) MacNeil, NB. and Marie (Reginald) Stewart, ON. and three Grandchildren; Aubrey A. Lewis, Brandon Lewis, and Ceilidh Lewis and her great-grandchildren; Alexander Lewis, Abigail Anstey, and Joseph Anstey.

She was predeceased by her parents, Dan and Sarah, her husband, Aubrey Lewis Sr., her brothers; Bernard (Agnes) and John (Florence); and sisters; Audrey (Ken) Morrison and Helen (George) LeVatte whom she was ready to see again after living such a long and fulfilling life.

She will be deeply missed by her family and will be remembered always for her quick wit, Speaking her mind, and the deep love she gave.Cremation has taken place under the direction of Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. Burial and memorial service will be a private family service at a later date.The family would like to thank the Staff of Ward 4B, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, who cared for her during her extensive stay.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
