It is with a heavy heart that our family announces the passing of Mary (Mim) Bragg, 95 on May 1, 2025, at The Northside General Hospital with family members at her side who loved her dearly and unconditionally. Born in North Sydney on March 23, 1930, Mim was the daughter of the late Ernest Hillier Sr. and Lucy (Crews) Hillier and the loving mother of Brian, Fort MacMurray, Alberta.
Mim married the love of her life, Nelson Bragg, in June 1952, and relocated to Innerkip, Ontario where she worked as a Telephone Operator. Leaving Ontario to move to Port Aux Basques (Channel) with Nels and their son Brian, where they ran a small restaurant. Her life changed drastically with the sudden death of her husband leaving her a widow at the age of 37 to raise their son on her own. Shortly after Mim moved back to her hometown of North Sydney, she started working as a waitress at the Wong’s Restaurant and because of her bubbly personality & sense of humour, she quickly became a favourite of the patrons. She then moved on to work at the very popular Family Footwear Store until her retirement in 1989. To this day, Mim is recognized and remembered for her days at the Shoe Store.
Mim loved family gatherings, bingo and playing cards. She loved her Toronto Blue Jays and the Toronto Maple Leafs. She was also an avid Curling fan.
Mim is survived by her son Brian, Fort MacMurray, granddaughter Erin (Sydney), and Patricia (Sydney Mines). Brothers Ernest Jr. (Betty), Joe (Pearl), sisters Lillian (Bob) Dolomont, Kingston, N.S., Lyn (Bob) Ballam and Sharon (Hector) Lantz, sisters-in-law Betty Hillier #1 and Amelia Hillier. Also left to mourn are many nieces, nephews, cousins and her special friends at Beacon Crescent.
Besides her parents, Mim was predeceased by brothers Howard (Nip), Alex, Clyde and Maurice in infancy. Sisters Cora in infancy, Meta (Maurice) Casey, Pearl (Raymond) MacDonald, Daisy (Edward) Noble and Jim Donovan, loving nieces Florence Shute, Heather Mitton, special niece Dale Simm who lived with her for a year, nephews Gordon Casey, Doug and David MacDonald and special nephew Erin Ballam.
Mim was very thankful for the loving care both before and while hospitalized to her sister Lyn and her nieces Amelia (Kelsey) and Paulette and the visits by all family and friends.
