Mario
Colosimo
Mar 13, 1931 — Jul 8, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and a lot of happy memories, we announce the passing of Mario Colosimo Sr, who passed away peacefully on July 8 at the age of 95 surrounded by his loving family.
Dad was born on Friday, March 13,1931 in Dominion, the first of his siblings born in Canada from an Italian immigrant family. He was predeceased by his loving wife Vinetta (MacDonald) Colosimo, Parents Tony and Chiarina (Caligiuri) Colosimo and siblings Mary, Peter, Michael, Norina, Sylvia, Orlando, Adelina, and Candia. He is survived by his sister Chiarina, Windsor Junction, NS.
Mario is survived by his five children, Mario (Carol), Cynthia (Rick Lawrence), Neil (Bev), Vinetta (Eric Rockwell), and Cara. His legacy lives on with his grandchildren Justin, Ashley, Olivia, Kristen, Alyssa, Tate, Carly, Joey, Mikey, and great grandson Holden. He was also eagerly anticipating his second great grandchild due in August 2026.
One of Dad’s favorite hobbies was puttering around his workshop, usually making frames for Mom’s paintings and other woodworking projects. Mario was an avid bowler in his working days and loved sports. He enjoyed watching the Toronto Maple Leaf’s and the Toronto Blue Jays – except on days they forgot to win!! Dad especially loved curling where you would find him during the season parked in his favorite chair watching it on his big screen. Meeting professional curlers Kevin Koe and Rachael Homan was a particular highlight.
Dad was always a total gentleman and lived a life marked by dedication, kindness, and unwavering love for his family and friends. He was a ham at heart when he had an audience and had a great sense of humour! Dad loved music and singing from Neil Diamond to Pavarotti.
Mario was a meat cutter by trade and moved into sales at M&B Meats where he made many friends during his travels throughout Cape Breton. After his retirement Dad and Mom enjoyed travelling overseas and time in their cabin in Valley Mills.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to staff at Glace Bay General hospital for their kindness and care during his extended stay, Dutch Brook Guest Home for their kind welcoming and home-like feel, and Taigh Na Mara Nursing Home for their care and compassion in his final days.
A cremation has taken place, and a private service will be held at a later date.
No matter how hard we try, no matter how many years go by, we still cannot say goodbye.
