With heavy hearts, the LeDrew family announces the passing of Margaret (Margie) Theresa LeDrew, 98, of New Waterford, at Maple Hill Manor surrounded by members of her family. Born on November 3rd, 1927, she was the oldest daughter of Neil Alex and Mary Beaton (Curry/Jamael).

Margie spent many years working as a medical secretary, including at New Waterford Consolidated Hospital. She was a strong advocate for New Waterford, fondly recalling the town’s storied history. Margie was a proud volunteer for the Canadian Cancer Society, providing local support to others in their time of need. She was a lifelong caregiver for her younger siblings and aging parents. She extended her caregiving aptitude when she married Gordon (Gordie) LeDrew Sr. in 1948 and dedicated her life to her pride and joy: her seven children, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Together with her husband, she cultivated a welcoming environment in the LeDrew household for all. Many times, all the children in the neighborhood would be seen playing in the LeDrew yard, and Margie was the centerpiece of these lifelong memories.

Margie enjoyed cooking and baking and was only too happy to share the product of her culinary skills with others. Margie was a social butterfly and thrived on spending time with others. Throughout her life, she would often reminisce about her times spent at community dances, out Mira with her family, and playing darts with her friends she lovingly labeled “the group of widows” in later life. She never hesitated to share how she was feeling; everyone always knew where they stood with Margie, and she would rarely back down when she felt she was right. Above all, she expressed how blessed she was to live a full life with her family, and our family was equally blessed to receive her care and support.

Margie is survived by her children, Yvonne, Kevin (Susan), Paul (Ruth), and Michelle (Thomas); grandchildren, Ashlea, Cory, Christopher, Jamael, Teri, Holly, Mark, Jeffrey, Erin, Phillip, and Andrew; great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Mavis, Liliana, Iris, Jaxson, Naiya, Aria, Jacob, Brooks, Breton, and Haven; youngest brother, Angus (Marion) Beaton, brother-in-law Frank (Kay) DeFrancesco, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Besides her parents, Margie was predeceased by her brothers John (Johnny), Malcolm (Malkie), Neil Jr. (Neilly), and little Alex; sisters, Kay, Alexandra (Alex), and little Donelda; husband, Gordie; and children, John Gordon (Gordie) Jr., Annsy, and baby George.

As per Margie’s wishes, no visitation or funeral service will take place. Cremation has taken place under the direction and care of Forest Haven Memorial Gardens & Crematorium, 1510 Grand Lake Road, Sydney. A private burial service will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tom McNeil Cancer Patient Care Fund or the Maple Hill Manor.

The LeDrew family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the staff at Maple Hill Manor in New Waterford. Your continuing care for Margie in her final years will not be forgotten. Even if she did not always show it, she was always appreciative of your efforts.
