It is with heavy hearts and many memories that we announce the sudden passing of Mackayla Ashely McGean who passed in her home July 19th, 2026 with loving parents Linda and Sheldon McGean by her side.

Born November 12th 1996, Mackayla graduated Riverview High School in 2017, and attended Haley Street most of her days. Though her time with us was far too short the impact she made on the lives around her will never be forgotten. She had a love for Christmas and even without her sight she fully embraced the spirit of the holidays. She loved long drives but hated stopping. She was known for her contagious laugh, bright smile and witty sense of humour.

Mackayla is survived by her loving and devoted parents Sheldon McGean and Linda (Barry) McGean. Three loving brothers Mark McGean (Pam), Matthew McGean (Andrea), and Mitchell McGean (Desiree). Two nephews and five nieces who loved her dearly. Paternal grandmother Jean (Morgan) McGean and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Predeceased by her maternal grandparents Joseph and Evelyn (Canavan) Barry, who never had the pleasure of meeting her. Paternal grandfather Robert McGean. Three uncles Joey, Danny and Anthony Barry. Great uncle and aunt Jim and Gladys Canavan and Great uncle Johnny Cann.

The family would like to send thanks to all those who have supported them throughout Mackayla’s journey.

Cremation has taken place under the care of Forest Haven Memorial Gardens and a Celebration of life will be held Saturday July 25th from 1pm-4pm at the Sydney Mines Pensioner Club and all are welcome to attend.

Fly high with the Angels my darling until we meet again and you will certainly be missed.
