It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lydia Helen Fortune (Morrison), age 66, of Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. Lydia passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026, at 9:30 a.m at the Glace Bay General Hospital.
Born on January 5, 1960, in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Lydia was one of the most loving, caring, and strongest people you could ever meet. She truly had a heart of gold and gave endlessly of herself to those she loved.
Lydia was predeceased by her beloved husband, George Fortune of 43 years whom she missed dearly. Her mother Mary Ellen, father Harold, sister Diane and brother Harold.
She leaves behind her cherished children Tony, George, and Maryann (Jimmy), and her adored grandchildren Breanna, Anthony, Hayden, Jace, and Keagan, who were the absolute light of her life. Her grandchildren were her world, and she was immensely proud of each and every one of them. She also leave behind 1 her brother Danny (Betty) Butts.
Family meant everything to Lydia. Her happiest moments were spent surrounded by those she loved. Baking was her true passion she could tell you how to bake anything from memory, recalling every ingredient without hesitation. Her kitchen was a place of comfort, warmth, and love, and her baking will forever be remembered by all who were lucky enough to enjoy it.
Lydia worked for many years at Jay's Restaurant in Glace Bay, where she was known for her kindness and dedication. She later worked for the Cape Breton Victoria Regional Center for Education as an LBG, where she formed many lifelong friendships and touched the lives of countless people.
Lydia will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her unconditional love, gentle spirit, and unwavering strength. Her legacy lives on through her family, whose lives she shaped with love, patience, and devotion.
Our mom will be donating parts of her anatomy to the QE2 Health Sciences Transplant Union.
A heartfelt thank you to Linda from Palliative Care and to the staff at the Glace Bay General Hospital for everything they did for our mom while she was there.
