It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lorraine Marie Rolls on September , 2025, at the 4North care facility in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, after a long illness stemming from a vehicle accident November 22, 2024.
Lorraine was Acadian French, born and raised in Poulamon, Isle Madame, Nova Scotia. As a young teenager, she moved with her mother Delina and siblings—Marina, Eleanor, and Gordie—to Sydney, Nova Scotia, where she spent most of her life. Many people will recognize her name and face, as Lorraine worked for many years at the Woolworth’s store on Charlotte Street in Sydney, and she always considered Sydney her true home.
In 1960, Lorraine married Wesley Alexander Rolls, Sr., with whom she shared a loving life until his passing in April, 2007. Lorraine is survived by her children Wesley Rolls, Jr., and Michelle Hiltz (Jeffrey Hiltz); granddaughter Jamie (Jagger Dirk) and grandson Connor (Samantha Kobar); brother Gordie; sister Eleanor Mac Donald; sisters-in-law Rose Rolls, Carmella Rolls, Sharon Rose, and Donna Landry; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and special close friend Russell Warcop.
She was predeceased by her mother Delina Boudreau; father Henry Landry; sister Marina Polegatto; brothers-in law Hubert MacDonald, Nelson Rolls, Fabian Rolls, and Bruno Polegatto; niece Tracy Rolls.
Lorraine was devoted to her family, always putting them first, as was the tradition in the Rolls/Landry clans. She loved walking, reading, doing puzzles and crafts (especially cardmaking), eating good food, and spending time with her friends and family. Her warmth, kindness, and love for Sydney touched everyone who knew her.
She will be deeply missed by her many friends and family in the Sydney area and beyond. Special thanks to all the healthcare staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, the Rehab Centre in Sydney Mines, and the Glace Bay Hospital.
Cremation has occurred, and Mom will be reunited with her husband at Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of gifts/flowers, please make a donation to your local SPCA.
