Lorne Jerimiah Duffney

Lorne Jerimiah (Jerry) Duffney, age 82 of Lingan, N.S., passed away peacefully on July 6th, 2025 at Cape Breton Regional Hospital. He spent his final moments surrounded by family.

Jerry was the son of Jerimiah and Helen Gertrude Duffney, and was raised in South Bar, N.S., where he completed his early education. He graduated from Technical University of Nova Scotia in Halifax with a mechanical engineering degree. Besides his career, he was passionate about sailing, having built and designed many boats in his lifetime, starting in his teenage years.

Jerry and his wife, Rozanne, spent their summers sailing on the Bras d‘Or Lakes in his pride and joy – his custom-built trimaran, FURIMO. When at home, he was always busy with projects that included gardening, wood working and making his dandelion wine.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Rozanne (O’Brien), his 3 children, Mark (Elizabeth) of Port Morien, Janice of Dallas, TX, and Scott (Stacey) of Glace Bay, and his grandchildren, Devon (Brialee), Coady (Amy), Shaelie (Mel) and Abbey (Sam), his siblings Therese (Tom), Martin (Nancy), and Bernadette.

He was predeceased by his parents and his son Paul in infancy, and his siblings Vaunda and Robert Paul (Robbie) and his daughter-in-law, Bev.

The Duffney family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the wonderfully attentive and professional staff in the ICU unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
