In Loving Memory of Kerry Susan Hicks (nee Brown)

Our beautiful mom, Kerry Susan Hicks (Brown) sadly left us on September 4, 2026. Kerry was born July 29, 1947, daughter of Clifford and Frances Brown. Born in Dartmouth, she was the big sister to three brothers and spent her teen years in Germany where her dad was posted in the RCAF. Kerry went to secretarial school at Mount Royal College in Calgary and later graduated from Acadia University with her BA and BEd. Travelling around Europe in her youth inspired Kerry’s love of French which she taught in Cornwallis, Dartmouth, New Waterford, and Glace Bay until her retirement. Despite being camera shy, Kerry represented CFB Cornwallis as Princess Cornwallis in the Annapolis Valley Apple Blossom Festival around 1970.

She loved to dance with our dad—they jived all over the dance floor many a night at the Dominion Italian Hall. An avid bridge player, Kerry was a regular at the Cape Breton Bridge Club for many years. In her retirement, she cruised around the globe and had countless travel adventures with Dad. Kerry loved word and logic puzzles, and she and Dad competed daily to finish the NYT crossword the fastest. Kerry was predeceased by her husband Karl, her parents, her brother Clifford, and nephew Stephen. She has left behind her bereft children, Karl Jr. and Laura, Kim (Scott) and Bruce (Donna), grandchildren Meaghen (Simon), Ashleigh, Hana, Hayden and Ava, and great-grandsons Oren and Elwin. She will be deeply missed by her brothers Garry (Joy) and Les (Alex), nieces and nephews Robert, Susi, Adam, Kati and Zack.
