John MacNeil

April 20, 1946 — December 14, 2020

With sadness and heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of John A MacNeil; Age 74 on December 14, 2020, at the Glace Bay General Hospital. Born April 20, 1946 and raised in Glace Bay, the son of the Late John R. and Mary (MacIntosh).

At 15 , John enlisted in the Armed Forces.  In later years, he was passionate about being a representative for the Canadian Food and Allied Workers’ Union while employed at Sobeys, Sydney.  He was also dedicated to his last job with New Dawn Enterprises, Sydney.  John could turn his hand to any job and loved helping others.  John was happiest at family get togethers; especially his New Year Gatherings serving his specialty “Corned Beef Dinner”.

John is survived by his loving wife, Patsy (MacDougall); his children, Wanda, Patty, John.  Ten grandchildren, two great grandchildren; brothers Anthony (Bea) (Barb), Gerard (Nina), Vince (Susan), Dan (Colleen), David (Linda) and many nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law Hughie MacDougall (Anne), David MacDougall (Michelle) and sister-in-law Lugene Petite (Brian).

Besides his parents, John was predeceased by sister Kaye and sons David and Cory.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff of the 3rd floor of the Glace Bay General Hospital for their kind and compassionate care. Cremation and burial under the care of Forest Haven Memorial; Gardens. A service of remembrance will be held at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or Palliative Care ℅ Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation.
