John James MacLeod

October 1, 1933 — December 23, 2023

Framboise

John James MacLeod, 90, of Framboise (recently of Saint Peters) passed away peacefully on December 23rd, 2023 at his home in Richmond Villa.

Born October 1st, 1933 in Framboise, to John and Mary Ann MacLeod.  John James lived all of his life in his family home (the farm).  One of 13 children, John James grew up with 10 sisters and 2 brothers and his life on the farm was always filled with adventures.  He often spoke of the farm life, telling stories of milking cows before walking miles to school.  Never one to shy away from hard work, the farm life gave him a good foundation for the many jobs he would hold during his long lifetime. He wore many hats during his 90 years having worked as a farmer, butcher, with Forestry Nova Scotia and finally retiring as Richmond County school bus driver. He continued to wear many hats even after retirement acting as a volunteer fireman and as President of Framboise Community Hall. John James loved his small community, and could always be counted on no matter what the need was.

John James had the most incredible sense of humour.  He would tease and taunt anybody and everybody, always loving to get a laugh.  His impish grin and twinkling blue eyes coupled with his silly giggle left a mark on this world that his death cannot erase.

Life became richer when he finally found his life partner.  Though it was later in life they found each other, the love they shared would rival any teenage love story.  Renee and John James lived a full life together, loving every moment spent with friends and family.  They shared a love of wildlife and family, playing bingo and cards, that kept them young at heart.  They could be seen most days and nights running the roads and seeking out friends in communities all over the island, reveling in competition, always together and always smiling.  John James lost a part of his heart when Renee passed away in February 2020, and the things they shared no longer held the same joy.

John James is survived by sisters Peggy Mason, Dartmouth, Dolena Brown, Sydney, Donelda (Earl) Drysdale, Mira Road, Mary (Sonny) Blackmore, Glace Bay, Marina (Ron) Seifried, Ontario and sister-in-law Alice MacLeod, Sydney, as well as numerous special nieces and nephews.  Step-children; Marie, Marion and Earl MacKay, and Billy Langer and their children. Also survived by Chrissy Campbell friend and caregiver (who loved him like a father) and grandchildren Hunter and Jenna Campbell, at home on the farm.
