It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Laughlin MacKinnon, who left us peacefully on October 23, 2024. Born on December 31, 1940, in Dunakin, Inverness County. John dedicated over 35 years of his life to a successful career with Stora Forest Industries. After retirement, he continued work as a truck driver, working with Esso, DW Matheson’s, and Ideal Concrete.
John was predeceased by his parents, John Allan MacKinnon and Isabella Busby, as well as his siblings: Margret, Jessie, James, Roddie, Murdock, Donald, Gordon, and Laura. He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Nan (Campbell) MacKinnon, and his beloved furry companions, Carlos and Bella. He is also survived by his brothers Donald, Allan, and sister Marion.
John’s warmth, laughter, and unwavering spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him. John spent most of his life in Baddeck where he enjoyed living near the Bras d’or Lake. When not at home John loved to return to the mountain of Dunakin where he had been born and raised. He built a small log cabin from trees on his property and enjoyed many days relaxing with Nan.
Nan would like to thank his family doctor Dr Jamie Tribo, all the doctors and nurses that cared for him during his recent illness. Donations in his memory can be made to the SPCA or charity of your choice. Cremation has already taken place and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
