John Dwight Fitzgerald

It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dad. Dwight’s life may have ended early to some, but he lived longer than anyone expected, including himself and with the best attitude. 

He grew up North of Smokey and didn’t understand why anyone would want to live elsewhere. He loved the ocean. Fishing was his passion. He loved every minute he was able to be on or around the water. And in his later years, when he could no longer participate, as he wanted, he loved watching all his fishing shows. Spring was his favourite season because in addition to fishing, that’s when the Blue Jays season started, and his days could be good or bad based on their game results. He had a Jays cap for every occasion.

Dwight is survived by his children Dana (John) and Chad (Geraldine); his beautiful granddaughters Madison and Kali and his ex-wife, best friend, roommate Maria. He is also survived by is parents Danita and Kevin Donovan; his siblings Darrell (Sherry), Angela (Stuart) and Lyle (Michele) and his Aunt Mary (Chuck).

We need to thank all the staff at Buchanan Memorial Hospital, and the North of Smokey home care group for all their care over the last 20 years. 

Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held. Please consider organ donation in Dwight’s memory.
