John Harry Balcom

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of John Harry Balcom on September 3, 2025, at Hospice Cape Breton, with family by his side.

Born on August 20, 1948, in Paradise, Nova Scotia, to Frank and Beatrice Balcom, John later made his home in Westmount. He was employed with Maritime Tel & Tel, where he built many lasting friendships.

John was an avid woodsman who loved trapping, hunting and fishing, passions he proudly shared with his sons and grandsons. He also enjoyed listening to music, a good story, or a joke. Known for his warm smile and easy manner, he made friends quickly and cherished time spent visiting with family and friends.

He will be dearly missed by his sons John D. (Michelle) and Kent (Robyn); his grandchildren Archer (Rhyan), Royce (Maddy), and Hana (Cole); his sisters Joan Gillis and Ann Benedict (Dave); his brother Ricky Balcom (Rena); and the mother of his children, Fay Balcom.

As per John's wishes, there will be no visitation or service.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to both 4C at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and Hospice Cape Breton for their extraordinary care. To Dr. Anne Frances D'Intino — truly an angel on earth — your compassion and kindness to both John and his family were deeply appreciated. To the nursing staff, housekeeping team, kitchen staff, and the many volunteers, your laughter, warmth, and support brightened even the hardest days.
