July 25, 1947 — May 29, 2024

New Waterford

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, John Thomas (Tom) Aucoin on May 29th, 2024 after a courageous battle with COPD at the age of 76. He was known to friends and coworkers as “Blue Eyes” a nickname given to him in his early days in the coal mines.

Tom worked in #12 and Lingan collieries finishing his 31 year career at Dominion Coal Yard. He later worked with the Commissionaires at the CBRH.

Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Joyce (Blackwood) Aucoin and the late Robert “Bob” Howatson. Stepson of the late Paul Phillip Aucoin.

He is survived by his loving wife Mary (Nugent) Aucoin, sons Eddie (Kelly), Sheldon (Marlene) and Paul, grandchildren Tara, Jacklyn, Ryan and Jace, brothers Joe (Dianne), Tony (Bev), Shane (Jen), Edison (Agnes) Bobby (Veronica) and Gordie (Darlene), sisters Ann (George), Muriel (Gordon-deceased), Shirley (Kevin-deceased) Linda (George) and Pamela. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Good friend and brother in law Tom Nugent and sisters in law Carmel (Nugent) Ney and Donna (Nugent) McPherson who were like brothers and sisters to him

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brother Cyril, and in laws Ned and Emma Nugent.

Tom loved camping and fishing up until declining health prevented him. He made so many memoires with friends and family and was known for his sense of humour. He will be missed by his fur baby “Boots”.

A special thank you to George Abraham and the staff of the former CB Injured Workers Association for their great help given to dad. Also a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Jennifer Lange and the nursing staff at the 2nd floor New Waterford Consolidated Hospital for their wonderful care in his final weeks.

As per his wishes, there will be no service or visitation. Cremation has taken place un the direction of Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. Interment will be at a later date. A family gathering at the family home will take place in July.

Thank you all for your well wishes and condolences. Also for those who brought food to the house. It was greatly appreciated.

If you wish to honour Tom by donations, the SPCA would be a great choice.
