It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving Aunt Joan MacGillivary, age 86, on Monday, September 8, 2025 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Joan passed peacefully with family members by her side after a brief illness.
Joan was predeceased by her parents, Daniel and Ellen MacGillivary and by her brother Donald MacGillivary and his wife Rosie, her sister Shirley Andrea and brother-in-law Mickey. She is survived by her nephews and niece, Brian, Richard, Gary and Michelle Andrea and their families, and Kenny, Ronnie and Bobby MacGillivary and their families.
We are grateful for the laughter, love, kindness and even some missteps we were able to share with Joan during her lifetime. We will always cherish the beautiful memories.
Joan was a loyal and hard worker who was proud of her accomplishments during here career in the office of the former Sydney Police Department for more than 35 years. Joan was also a loyal friend and would go out of her way to help, usually with a pan of her tomato cabbage rolls and of course sweets.
We are thankful for the care she received from the nursing staff on 4A at the Regional Hospital. Our family thanks you for your dedication and commitment to healthcare. A special thanks to Dr Murphy and Dr Kelly.
Also Thank you to the staff at the MacGillivary Guest Home, for your professionalism, compassion and providing comfort, love and meaning when life deals us a different hand.
Cremation has already taken place. A private graveside burial service will take place at Hardwood Hill Cemetery at a later date.
In Joan’s memory, we ask that you give someone a hug and show kindness.
