Joan Marie Ashe

October 30, 1941 — June 14, 2023

Glace Bay

With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we the family announce the passing of Joan Marie (McNeil) Ashe. She was born in Glace Bay on October 30, 1941 to the late Jennie (Popwell) and Alexander R. McNeil.

Joan was truly the most selfless, caring, loving person we have every known. She was always smiling, she made us laugh, comforted us in times of sorrow and always knew how to lighten our hearts. She was the kind of person who you enjoyed being around, she had a great sense of humour and never complained no matter how tough things got for her, she brightened up the world just by being who she was.  Joan loved her family and friends so much and would do anything to help and protect them. She will never be forgotten.

Joan is survived by her children, Brian, Joanne, Stephen, and Derrick, her seven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. Also left to mourn are her siblings Barbara and Frank, many friends, cousins, nieces, nephews and her dear friend Liz.

Joan is now reunited with her husband Harold and her siblings, Donnie, Mary, Weenie, Jennie, Annie, Shirley and Helen.

A special Thank you to all the staff at Taigh Na Mara, words cannot express our gratitude for the care and compassion you have given mom over the past three years.

A service will be at Warden United Church in Glace Bay on June 24, 2023 at 1pm with Rev. Martha MacDonald presiding with a Celebration of Life to follow at the Hub Club in Glace Bay.
