Jennie Kathleen MacLean, 93, of Little Narrows passed away peacefully at the Alderwood Guest Home Baddeck on September 27th, due to the debilitating disease of dementia.
Jennie was born in Jubilee, Cape Breton, on November 25th,1930 to her parents Dan and Robena Ross. While in her 20s she married Hector Grant MacLean to become a home maker and mother of three, but tragedy struck in 1958 when Grant lost his battle with cancer at the young age of 25. At the time the suggestion was to split up the children to other families but she stayed the course. Alone with three young children she returned to her family home in Jubilee and with the help of her parents began the challenge to move forward with the extended family. Involved in local community groups over the years and an adherent in the local Church, life was active and interesting. Work involved clerking at the local general store over a 25+ year span where she interacted with a great number of people in the surrounding area. When Dan and Robena aged to where assistance was required, she then focused on providing full time care up until their passing.
As noted earlier, an avid hockey fan over the years with an obvious bias for the Montreal Canadiens. She rarely missed the 1st or even the 2nd periods of any game but if the Habs were playing all 3 periods required her undivided attention.
Jennie is survived by her three children Melvin (Elizabeth), Leslie (Lisa), Brenda (Morris), grandchildren Andrew, Alex(Chelsea), and Katie(Brett), along with great grand daughter Hannah. Sisters Anna Matheson and Marion MacRae, and her numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by both Parents, her husband Grant, brothers Stanley, Malcolm (Buddy) and wife Dallas, youngest sister Sadie and husband Dan Hughie Beeson, brother-in-laws Donnie Matheson and Claude MacRae.
Acknowledgements go out to the MacLeod House, Port Hawkesbury, the Victoria County Memorial Hospital and the Alderwood Guest Home, Baddeck. Thank you to the Administration and Staff for providing respect and empathy these past years for Jennie.
Cremation has taken place under the care of Forest Haven Memorial Gardens in Sydney. A grave side service will be held in the Little Narrows Presbyterian Cemetery on October 11th at 2 p.m..
