Ian Robert Dixon

With sadness, we the family, announce the passing of Ian Robert Dixon on July 19, 2025 at the age of 79 in Sydney, NS. Ian was born in 1946 in Surrey, England. He was the son of the late John and Constance Dixon. He is pre-deceased by his brother Ken Dixon.

Ian is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Patricia “Pat” Dixon. Pat and Ian met when they were only 15 and 17 years old. They married in February of 1967 when Pat was 19 and Ian 21. Together they had four children, all born in England. Ian joined the London Fire Brigade in London, England and continued to serve in all communities where he lived. He became the Rev. Chaplain for Volunteer Firefighters in CBRM four years ago. In this role, he offered support and compassion to many Firefighters so that they could continue to find strength in their important work.

What a life Ian had, emigrating to Canada in 1981 as a family and becoming a Reverend in 1994. He was grateful to have officiated a number of weddings for family and friends, sharing in their special moments. Over the years, he and Pat fostered 65 children and babies in Canada and England, showing compassion and love in their time of need and having a positive impact on their lives. After raising his family with his wife, they moved to Uganda to serve the Lord, helping the needy and comforting the sick. He also encouraged those in Kenya, Belize, and Brazil.

Ian is also survived by his children Terry (Nohemi), Henderson, Nevada; Alex (Kelly), Toronto, ON; Beki (Dave), Bognor Regis, England and Ben (Sheena) Big Pond, NS. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, Christian, Kai, Josh, Isaac, Katie, Tristan, Liam, Kallum, Caleb, Ella, and Piper. He was so proud of all of his grandchildren, as well as his 6 great-grand children, Rosealynn, Amadeo, Harley, Brody, Oakley and Ameila. He also has nieces and nephews he held close to his heart.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Brett Gillis from Palliative Care as well as the Victorian Order of Nurses (NS) for the care and compassion they provided to Ian the past number of months. As well, a special thank you to his close friends and Faith Baptist Church congregation for the kindness and support they’ve shown to Pat and Ian.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life service will be held Saturday July 26, 2025 at 11 am at the Faith Baptist Church at 10 Davenport Road, Sydney, NS with Pastor Rob Jones officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to Open Arms Uganda, in care of the Faith Baptist Church.
