Helen Nelsie Stanford

Our beautiful mother passed away peacefully on April 21, 2022 at MacGillivray’s Guest Home with family at her side. She was born March 6, 1926 at her home on Pellatt Avenue in New Waterford where she lived most of her life.

Mom was the daughter of Isaac and Maud (Johnson) Purdy. She is survived by Brian (Laura), Scotchtown, Donna (Michael) O’Shea, Sydney and David (Jen), Halifax,  grandchildren Matthew, Connor, Daniel, Brendan, Liam, Michael and Emily. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Adeline and Jasper.

Helen was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband Donald (Ginny), sisters Juanita Grant and Jean Beaton and brothers Orman, Allison and Harold.

Mom was an incredible mother who loved and protected us, filling our childhood with happiness. She was known as a very kind person who was devoted to her family. She was an active member of the United Church Women and the Senior Choir at Calvin United Church in New Waterford. She enjoyed many hours at her piano, never tiring of her favourite hymns. Her journey with Alzheimer’s dementia has come to a peaceful end.

Many thanks to the MacGillivray Guest Home staff who provided exceptional care to our mother. They treated Mom with respect, love and kindness everyday. We are so grateful.
