Hedy Gavel passed away peacefully after a life defined by faith, devotion, and deep love for her family.
Born in Holland, Hedy immigrated to Canada at a young age with her family. She later pursued a career in nursing, where she met her late husband, Edward. Hedy was the heart of her family, always placing the needs of her loved ones above her own. Family meant everything to her, and she found her greatest joy in bringing people together—whether through shared meals, cherished traditions, or simply spending time together. Her love, guidance, and unwavering support created a strong foundation that will continue to live on through those she held close.
Hedy is survived by her three sons: Loran (April), Steven (Marlene), and her youngest son, John. She was a devoted and loving mother who took great pride in each of her children, supporting them with unwavering encouragement, guidance, and unconditional love throughout their lives. Her strength, wisdom, and steady presence shaped the family she so deeply cherished. She is also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom held a special place in her heart.
She shared a special and enduring bond with her younger sister, Wilhelmina, united not only by family but also by a deep and shared faith that guided their lives. Their relationship was one of love, devotion, and mutual support. Hedy also cherished her relationships with her other siblings, holding each of them close to her heart. Above all, she carried a profound love and respect for her mother, whose influence remained a guiding presence throughout her life.
A woman of remarkable energy and creativity, Hedy found great joy in keeping busy with the things she loved. She took pride in her gardening and found comfort in sewing, knitting, and baking, pursuits that reflected both her patience and care for others. Whether creating something with her hands or tending to her home, she approached everything with enthusiasm and purpose. Her vibrant presence and joyful, boisterous laugh could brighten even the quietest room.
Deeply rooted in her faith, Hedy was a steadfast and devoted believer, remaining strong and resolute until the end of her life. Her strength of spirit, generosity of heart, and unwavering faith will be remembered with gratitude by all who knew her.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Taigh Solas for their unwavering support, dedication, and compassionate care.
