Hazel Elizabeth Tonary

It is with great sadness that Hazel Tonary (Nicholson) passed away peacefully at Victoria Haven nursing home on Thursday August 21st 2025 at the age of 87. We would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff at the home for their compassionate care of our mom.

She was born in Glace bay N.S. on July 19th 1938 and was the youngest of ten children. She is survived by her three daughters Maryjean Bodhaine (Norman) Michelle Ratchford (Jason)and Shirley St.John (Jim ) and her son Harold Tonary (Cheryl)she will be dearly missed by her nine grandchildren Maryann Jordan, Russell, Lilly, Tesa, Fraser, Alicia, Kara and (little)Harold also her great grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews but she shared a special bond with her niece Sharon Stanley.

Hazel is predeceased by her loving husband Angus MacDonald and her parents James Nicholson and MaryAnn (Acker) Nicholson and her great granddaughter Sadie Grace daughter of Maryann and Ryan.

Hazel worked various jobs in her younger years but was devoted primarily being a homemaker. She loved to cook , play Bingo and spend evenings playing cards with her husband ,her sister Kate and friends .She also loved to dance and enjoyed many nights out with friends at the Army and Navy.

At Hazel’s request there will be no service or visitation. A private family gathering will be held at a future date .
