It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father and friend Gordon MacKillop.
Gordon will be greatly missed by his son John (Lynette), daughter Dawn Michelle (Wayne), granddaughter Joni (Brendon), grandson Dylan, granddaughter Allie, and grandson Tucker. He will also be greatly missed by brothers George and Willie (Marguerite), sister Marilyn, ex-wife and friend Elizabeth, brother-in-law Murdock (Violet), sister-in-law Theresa (Mike), and Uncle Angus MacKillop, along with many nieces, nephews, friends and family.
Gordon was predeceased by his father John, mother Hilda, father-in-law Alex, mother-in-law Mary, son Gordie (Joanne), daughter Jennifer (Tyler), brothers Donnie (Donna), and Roddie (Theresa), sister Karen, brother-in-laws Leo, Raymond, Lloyd, Hughie, George, Jimmie, and sister-in-laws Anne, Lorraine, Peggy and Alexis.
Gordon’s career started when he enlisted in the Navy as a cook in the 1960’s. After leaving the Navy, Gordon continued on with his love for cooking and taught a cooking course at Eastern Technical School. Finally, Gordon went to work for Sydney Steel until he retired. His career spanned over 30 years.
In his younger years, Gordon enjoyed hunting, fishing, ice fishing, cooking and tinkering around cars. Gordon’s most favourite place to relax was at the beloved “bungalow” in Grand River where he would spend his time enjoying nature and tending to his garden. If “Da” wasn’t in the garden you could find him in the kitchen whipping up one of his legendary meat pies. People would be lined up waiting for them to be ready!
Gordon spent the last eight years with the lovely staff and community of Victoria Haven Nursing Home where he made many wonderful friends. He was especially fond of Joann White of whom he spoke so highly.
As per Gordon’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gordon’s memory to the Recreation Department of Victoria Haven Nursing Home.
