It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved sister, aunt, cousin and friend on December 29, 2025 at the age of 95 years old.
Gladys was born in Point Aconi in 1930 to Florence Ann (Brown) and Angus Stubbert. She is survived by her sister Lillian Bonnar of Point Aconi along with many nieces and nephews that she held dearly to her heart. Gladys was a quiet lady with a big heart for her family. She always enjoyed her phone calls and visits with them. She enjoyed spending each Christmas with her sister Lillian at her house each year waiting for Santa to visit. It was something she really looked forward to each year.
Gladys enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews from when they were a young age. She told us many stories of how she learned to make pizza for them for the first time from reading a recipe in a magazine and making Christmas decorations for the Christmas tree. She worked for many years in the fish plants in both Alder Point and North Sydney.
Gladys resided in her later years at Golden Pond Apartments in Sydney Mines with her husband Jimmy where they made many friends who were very good to them as neighbours. Gladys true love was her husband Jimmy. She adored him and they lived a very happy life together.
Gladys is predeceased by her loving husband and best friend Jimmy, her sisters; Florence Bonnar and Bernette Stubbert of Point Aconi, her brother in laws Raymond Bonnar and Adrian Bonnar of Point Aconi.
In accordance with Gladys’ wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. Burial and memorial service will take place at a later date.
A special thank you is being sent to Dr. Andrew Wawer, Dr. Alex Wawer and Dr. Ignacio and the nurses and staff of 2-West at Northside General Hospital for their excellent care and compassion for Gladys while she was a patient there. Gladys had wonderful care from many nursing staff over the years from Northside Homemakers and VON who treated her very kindly.
Gladys had a lot of special people in her life and was fond of her nieces and nephews along with her grand nieces and nephews down to the newest generations. She kept all the photos given to her over the years, all the baby pictures, birth announcements and homemade cards. She was a very cared for lady.
Thank you to her “son at heart” and nephew John and Jacqueline Bonnar, her niece Raylene (Lawrence) Moore and family, her niece Gloria Bonnar, her nephew Kevin Bonnar and family, her niece Linda McGean and family, her grand niece Wanda (Mike) Timmons and her sister Lillian Bonnar for all the love and support over the years, all the phone calls and visits, the time spent caring for Gladys at home and in the hospital and making her feel so loved and supported. Gladys appreciated you all.
Gladys’ life was a blessing, her memory now a treasure.
