Gerald James Hennessy

April 9, 1955 — August 27, 2025

Albert Bridge

With deep love and heavy hearts, we share that our beloved uncle, brother and friend, Gerald Hennessy passed away peacefully at the CBRH on August 27, 2025, at the age of 70 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in New Waterford he was the son of the late Jeremiah (Jerry) Hennessy and Felicitas (Phill) McNeil (Hennessy). He grew up in New Victoria and eventually took over the family bungalow in Albert Bridge.

Gerald worked as a skilled a pipe fitter and was a member of UA Local 682. He traveled all over Canada and parts of the states for many years building not only a career but also lifelong friendships along the way. Beyond his work, Gerald truly embraced life and found joy in the simple, beautiful things that nature had to offer. His home on the Mira River was his pride and peace where he could be found fishing, watching and spoiling the many birds that visited, tending to his garden, or tinkering with a project in the barn. He was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need and had a gift for fixing or building just about anything. His carpentry skills were exceptional and he was meticulous and took great pride in everything he did. Affectionately known as “Uncle Buck” to his many nieces and nephews, Buck created a lifetime of cherished memories with them. His home was always a place of joy, laughter, and adventure whether it was being spoiled by his kindness and the best treats, playing on the tire swings, zip lining, boating along the river, or heading off on trips to the island. Gerald had a deep love for his family, especially the time spent with his siblings. He treasured every visit, and had many great times hosting horseshoe games and barbecues that brought everyone together. Those moments will forever be treasured by the family who adored him.

Gerald is survived by brother's Ronnie (Mary), Scotchtown; and John (Monie), New Victoria; sister's Ann Head, New Waterford; Lois Gallant (Wayne), Glace Bay; Karen Hennessy (Cory), New Glasgow; Brother in law Michael MacLeod, Moncton; sister in law's Laura, New Waterford; and Cathy, Mira. He was predeceased by Father Jerry; Mother Phill; sister Donna MacLeod; and brother's James, Kevin and Vernon.

Also left to mourn is his loyal companion, his beloved dog Bella, or as he affectionately called her “My Bell” she brought him great comfort and joy.

By Gerald’s request there will be no visitation or services. Cremation has taken place and donations may be made in his memory to the SPCA.

The river runs on and so does the love he left behind.
