It is with great sadness, but respect for a life well lived that I announce the passing of my mom Frances on August 1, 2020 at the MacGillivray Guest Home. She was born in Sydney on March 11,1942 to the late Archie and Jessie (Morrison) MacKinnon. Raised and educated in Sandfield she grew up with those who remained lifelong friends.
Hospitality came natural to Frances; and rightfully so as it became her career for many years where she served and catered to others with a smile. Early in adulthood, she married Beverly MacKeigan and had a son Kelly. As a family, they owned and operated MacKeigan’s Bay Beach Park and took part in many social events in the homes of dear friends throughout the community. Later in life, she married Winston “Butch” Waters and lived in Prime Brook for several years until her health was challenged.
Frances will always be remembered for her kindness, laughter, antics and solutions to most - if not all issues including the occasional note to a teacher to defend those teenagers that “skipped school”.
She leaves behind her only son Kelly (Leanne) and their children Jess & Seamus; sisters Florence (Eugene), Jean “Tootsie” MacKinnon (Sandy MacNeil); sister-in-law Pearl (Russell) Huntington; brother in law Ross MacKeigan; nephews Kris “Buddy”, Kenneth, Darryl, Trevor, Carl, Doug, Darren, Brent, Mark, George, Paddy, John, Robbie, Jason and Stephen; nieces Tracey and Gina.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband Beverly MacKeigan and her second husband Butch Waters as well as her sister & best friend Archena MacKeigan and a nephew Ronnie.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Forest Haven. A private tribute will be held at a place that meant allot to Frances.
