Obituary

We, the family of Eric Bernard Shea, sadly announce his peaceful passing on October 18, 2026, at Glace Bay Hospital, at the age of 89.

Born in Glace Bay on March 10, 1937, he was the son of the late Ambrose Shea and Margaret Shea (MacPhee).

Our father was exceptionally gifted with musical talent! Whichever instrument he picked up, he learned to play. He played piano, guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, accordion, harmonica and drums, and at times, even played two instruments at once! He had the rare ability to hear a song just once and play it back perfectly. He truly enjoyed sharing his musical talents with family and friends. He was an avid gardener who spent many of his days in his greenhouse and loved to show off and share the fruits of his labor. His love of wildlife, particularly birds, was another lifelong passion. Eric enjoyed playing and coaching hockey in his younger years, and in later years, loved nothing more than watching a good game with a cold one!

Eric is survived by his three daughters, Sharon Maynard (Doug), Lynn MacDonald (Vince) and Kelly Shea (Robert Wilton); his grandchildren, Holly, Randy, Chantelle, Gerry, Kayla and Mitchell; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by Valerie Shea and her two children, Brian Watkins (Sandy) and Joanne LeCreux; their children, Jeffrey, Jenna, Dylan and Morgan; as well as five step-great-grandchildren.

Eric leaves behind his siblings, Drucella, Iris and George.

His “Buddy,” Anita Budden, will miss him dearly as well!.

He was predeceased by his only son, Paul Shea, along with his parents; sisters, Marge, Theresa, Eileen and Colleen; and brothers, James, Thomas, Fabian, Gerard and Joe.

Cremation has taken place, with a service and internment to be announced at a later date.

Condolences may be left at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
