We the family, sadly announce the sudden passing of our mom, Eliza Rhoda (Oakes) DeCoste on March 30th, 2026 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by family and loved ones. Eliza was the daughter of the late Gordon Oakes and Sadie Morris.

Eliza loved spending time with her grandchildren and her children. She loved doing word searches, spending time with her friends and watching her soaps.

Eliza will be sadly missed by her daughter: Nancy (Mark) Budden, Glace Bay, her sons Christopher (Cathy) DeCoste, Glace Bay and Corey DeCoste, Glace Bay. Eliza will also be missed by her 10 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. She will also be missed by her sister Gertrude “Gertie” Mullins, brothers Jim and Gordie Oakes, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Eliza is predeceased by her husband Bernie, parents, grandparents, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews and grandsons.

Celebration of life will be held on April 18th, 2026 from 7-10pm, location to be determined.
