IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Edward (Teddy) George
Gillard
May 11, 1950 – February 23, 2026
We, the family, are saddened to announce the sudden passing of our beloved Father, Grandfather, and brother, Teddy Gillard on February 23, 2026, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in North Sydney, he was predeceased by his Mothers Catherine MacPherson and Ethel Gillard, and his special aunts Mary Saunders & Christine Saunders, and his sister Deborah Sweeney (MacPherson).
He was survived by his daughters Lisa (Dave) Serafinus, Terri Lee Gillard and Leeann Gillard. His Grandchildren, who he adored, Dustin (Lyla), Dylan (Hannah), Sabrina, Haley, Savannah, Taylor, Corban, and his brother Tom Gillard (Ontario).
Dad drove taxi for many years with Blue & White and met so many amazing people. He played in a band called the Squires in the 70’s and the band called Country Maple in the 80’s and early 90’s and was known for being the best drummer in town. He often spoke about all his buddies who he had the pleasure of playing with. He worked in the kitchen at the Canadian Coast Guard College and loved bringing us there while he worked and we sure loved going. He moved to New Brunswick for 18 years where he worked as a delivery driver and spent quality time with his grandchildren in NB hanging out, fishing, meeting for lunch at his place, driving them to their extracurricular activities and sharing many laughs and stories along the way. He met many good friends over those years and enjoyed their company.
He then moved back to Cape Breton where he resided in North Sydney and officially retired. He spent his time in Cape Breton with us and his other grandchildren. He spoiled us every day and brought so much joy and love to our lives with lunch at his place and was always prepared for special guests that may stop in, his sweeties Keira, Serena and Lynn. He loved doing homework with the kids, playing board games, and cards teaching them all the tricks. He truly lived up to his name Teddy as he was a teddy bear to all the children. He enjoyed going and watching their sports and cheering them on. He really loved his puzzles, watching reruns of FRIENDS, listening to his favorite tunes, watching UFC and game shows. He also had his VR family from all over the world.
As per Teddy’s request, there will be no public celebration of life. Cremation has taken place, and an immediate family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Heart & Stoke Foundation.
We will always remember that special smile, that caring heart, that warm embrace you always gave us, you being there for us, through good and bad times, no matter what. We’ll always remember you Dad because they’ll never be another one to replace you in our hearts, and the love we will always have for you. If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever!
