It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Wilson Garland who left this world at the age of 71 on December 26, 2025. Born on February 23, 1954, he was the son of Kay and the late Robert Garland of Middle River.
Wilson met and married the love of his life, Brenda. She and their daughter Michelle become the center of his world. Brenda and Wilson’s time together spanned over 50 years in a marriage rooted in love, respect and admiration.
Wilson spent his life as a long haul truck driver traveling throughout Canada and the US. He was dedicated to his career and known for his strong work ethic. When he was not driving, you could find him cleaning or polishing his truck. He created many life long friendships during his career. His last days were spent receiving visits, calls and texts from so many. He was a true friend that was always willing to help others.
Although facing health challenges the past several years, he met them with determination and resilience. He did everything to remain present as long as possible for those he loved. His strength will always be remembered and admired.
His legacy will live on in the family he cherished, in the determination and strength he has passed on, in the friendships he held and in the stories that will live in our hearts for the rest of our lives.
Wilson will always be remembered for his resilience, work ethic, humor, kindness and exceptionally clean vehicles. He loved cruises, so we know he is on a ship balcony right now, enjoying warm weather and peacefully sailing into the sunset.
Left to mourn his passing is his wife Brenda (Chisholm); his daughter Michelle (Richard) Smith; grand fur babies Abbie and Molly; mother Kay; and siblings Rachel (Terry) Kelly, Roberta MacLennan, and Donald (Dianne); as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles, aunts and in-laws.
Wilson was predeceased by his father Robert and brother in law Sandy MacLennan.
We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the amazing palliative care team of Dr. Burns, Dr. D’Intino, Vicky McMullin, all of the Hospice Cape Breton staff, family physicians Dr. De Clemente and Dr. Genge. A special thank you to family, friends, co-workers and Grandview Street neighbours.
Donations in Wilson’s memory can be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton.
A celebration of life and graveside service will be held at a later date.
