The family is saddened to announce the passing of Doreen Jenkins, of Birch Grove. She passed away peacefully on July 12, 2025 at the Cape Breton Hospice in Membertou. Doreen was born on May 27, 1952 to parents Jim & Naomi (Milley) Brown. She was raised in Donkin and attended Donkin-Morien High School.
She married Rudolph (Rudy) Jenkins and they had three children; Glenn (Joanne) Jenkins, Glace Bay, Dave (Angie) Jenkins, Boston and Gina Dawn Jenkins, Halifax. Doreen and Rudy spent most of their married life in Birch Grove. In earlier years, Doreen enjoyed playing darts and weekends with her family at their bungalow in Loch Lomond where the kids had fun fishing, swimming and bonfires at night. She later worked at Foodland for 20+ years where she formed many close friendships which lasted throughout the years. She was a quiet, kind and friendly person, who was well like by everyone she met.
Left to mourn is her husband Rudy of 54 years, her three children and seven grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Cameron, Allyssa, Carter, Chase, Cooper and Spencer. The grandchildren were her absolute pride and joy. Time spent with them was precious to her.
Also left to mourn are her sisters Joan Penny, Glace Bay and Gina Turner, Birch Grove. Gina had a special bond with her and enjoyed spending time with her as she became more ill over the last several years. They spent lots of time talking and reminiscing over their childhood. She will be deeply missed. Doreen is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws, a special niece Jamie Turner and special nephew Todd Jenkins, both thought the world of her. She was a wonderful Aunt to all of them.
She also had special friends Anne Jenkins, Judy Cole, David and Shirley White and cousin Lillian Driscoll who meant a lot to her over the years. Lillian’s daughter Tanya was also special to Doreen. Tanya loved her a lot. Doreen was predeceased by both of her parents, a sister Edie Matheson and many in-laws.
Cremation has taken place.
The family would like to express thanks to the doctors, nurses and all the staff and volunteers of 4A and Palliative Care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney as well as the Cape Breton Hospice where she couldn’t have been treated any more special. The family is forever grateful. Special thanks to Dr. Melanie Adams, her family doctor, who was fantastic to Doreen and Rudy and made house calls the last several weeks before Doreen went into hospital.
As per Doreen’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service.
