It is with heavy hearts we announce after a brief but aggressive battle with cancer, that Charles Eric Briggs, affectionately known as “Poppy” has passed away on June 6th, 2025, at the age of 81 with his family by his side.
Eric was the son of late Arthur and Cecelia (Barro) Briggs, of Donkin, NS. Brother to the late William, Arthur (Ehtel), Illona (Herbert), and uncle to late nephew Eric, all of whom he is now returned to. He is survived by his wife Claire, youngest brother Gene, children Michelle & Brendon, grand children Daryan, Joshawa & Zach, great grandchildren Charli, DeltaJaeh, Blue and awaited arrival of his fourth great grandchild, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Eric began life with the attitude building something he would be proud of; he set out to define himself and make his mark on the world. Professionally he did this with 35 years exemplary service to the Bank of Montreal, climbing from no title to Senior Accounts Manager & Branch Manager. His day of retirement was one of his happiest, leaving one venture for another, his family, he was never still and rarely content to sit back and watch.
Though being a banker was a definition in his life in many ways, what he loved to be known for, the man we grieve was so much more. His work ethic was unmatched and inspiring, always turning each opportunity into a lesson designed to be carried on. His few days of relaxation were spent being with family, eyes on the ocean, food being shared, overlooking generations, children, grand children, then to his enjoyment his great grandchildren running amongst the very places he started off in life.
A few short words cannot do justice to the life Eric led, his presence filled the room, and his actions spoke volumes. With an unwavering mind, his advice was sought out constantly. His pride for those he cherished well known. He took on the role of anything needed. To the moment of his passing providing us with what ever was required, teaching us that life never gives us what we cannot handle, we just need to get the job done.
Cremation has taken place; a private internment will take place at a later date. The family askes that in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Tom McNeil Cancer Patient Care Fund or Cancer Here at Home.
