It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Cathy Yvonne (Dearing) Boone, age 65, of Glace Bay.
Cathy passed away peacefully on October 1, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Glace Bay on December 13, 1960, Cathy was a vibrant woman who was loved by all who knew her. At her core, she was a caregiver, always putting the needs of others before her own.
Cathy had a deep love for animals, especially her dogs. She spent countless hours in her beloved greenhouse, tending to her flowers and enjoying the peace and beauty they brought her.
Cathy began her working career at the Heavy Water Fish Hatchery before moving on to Thoms Flowers, where she met her longtime best friend, Aldrina Wrathall. She spent the final 20-plus years of her career caring for others at the Cove Guest Home.
Cathy is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Cecil Boone; her son, Cecil Jr. (Kristin); and her daughter, Lindsay.
She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Henry, Lilja, Sofia, and Callen, who brought great joy to her life.
Cathy is survived by her siblings: Ron (Pam), Sault Ste. Marie, ON; Annalee, Glace Bay; David (Lynn), Sault Ste. Marie, ON; Kevin (Nancy), Dominion; Debi, Glace Bay; Brian (Brenda), Napanee, ON; and Norma (Peter), Reserve. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Glenda (Ross), Reserve, and brothers-in-law, Eldie and Ross, Birch Grove, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Cathy was predeceased by her parents, Ray and Yvonne Dearing; her parents-in-law, Eldon and Barbara Boone; her brothers, Ray, Jimmy, and Bruce (Jan); and her brother-in-law, Bob Cole.
Cremation has taken place. In keeping with Cathy's wishes, there will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Ajawan, Dr. Lucas, and Dr. LaPierre, as well as the staff of Palliative Care, especially Linda Murphy, and the VON for their compassionate care and support.
Cathy will be remembered for her kindness, her devotion to family, her love of animals, flowers, and the care she showed to everyone fortunate enough to know her.
